If you’re on the hunt for the latest iPhone, you’ll have to wait until Friday, September 16 to get one in your hands, but you can place your order now.
Here’s a rundown of everything you need to know about Apple’s latest flagship iPhone 14, including the different phones available and the most competitive offers.
What to expect from the iPhone 14
Handset options: As with its previous iPhone 13 offering, Apple released not one, but four different phones in its latest iteration. This time around, it’s iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max with pre-orders now available across the range.
Laptop costs: The standard iPhone 14 starts at £ 849 while for its larger version, the iPhone Plus, it costs £ 949. Costs for the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models start at £ 1,099 and £ 1,199 respectively.
Screen: Although the Super Retina XDR display is not new to the iPhone, this model is equipped with a brightness of up to 2,000 nits. By context, that’s 1,200 nits more than its predecessor. And according to Apple, no other smartphone is that bright.
Resolution: OLED and “True Tone” technology is once again paired with a high resolution – on this occasion 1170 x 2532 with 460 pixels per inch – which help to give depth to the color contrast, adjust the display in different lights and make more sharpen the image.
Battery: As expected from a flagship phone, the 14 has longer battery life than its predecessors. Apple claims this phone offers up to 20 hours of video playback.
A15 Bionic Processor: Working with the battery to boost optimized performance is Apple’s A15 Bionic processor. The chipset first debuted in the iPhone 13 range.
There is also a new A16 Bionic processor, but it is currently exclusive to the Pro and Pro Max iPhone 14 models. The A15 Bionic chipset consists of a five-core GPU that allows for smooth performance, particularly, for example, when it comes to games with heavy graphics.
Camera: A new range of iPhones typically means an improved camera system, and this is the case with the iPhone 14 generation. The two 12MP rear lenses have been improved, while the main camera has a larger sensor and aperture than to the iPhone 13, letting in 29% more light.
This allows you to capture 2.5x better details in low light, while the ultra-wide camera captures 2x better detail in low light. For lifelike photos, the camera blends even the best pixels from multiple exposures.
Storage: Storage ranges from 128GB to 512GB on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, up to 1TB for Pro and Pro Max.
Power: The premium Pro and Pro Max models stay powered longer and offer two great features: the Dynamic Island display that intuitively expands to show notifications at the top of the screen and “Always-On” which allows the lock screen to display continuously notifications, even when you’re not using your phone.
The Pro and Pro Max versions of the iPhone 14 have a refresh rate of 120Hz.
Resistence: All four models of the new iPhone generation feature a rugged display with ceramic shield, aluminum casing, and are dust and water resistant.
Connectivity: All iPhone 14 models have 5G connectivity and can detect if you’ve been involved in a car accident and make emergency calls if you don’t answer. They support nano SIM cards, which are the smallest removable SIMs, and eSIMs, the latter allowing the use of multiple phone numbers and service plans.
