The most glamorous in the world have arrived. The red carpet of the Royal Albert Hall is rolled out. And an explosion of impossible shapes and scattered sequins, the new season’s designs are on display. It can only mean one thing: the 2022 Fashion Awards are here.
You’ve heard them dubbed Britain’s answer to the Met Gala, and this year, the legendary ceremony comes with extra tension. Parties and celebrations were rightfully canceled during the latest London Fashion Week, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, meaning the stars on display have doubled down on the extravagance to make up for lost time.
Leading the red carpet statement was Florence Pugh, who arrived on the arm of Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli in a glamorous Hollywood-style, backless scarlet satin gown complete with voluminous train. Yes thanks. She was joined by Naomi Campbell, who looked predictably stunning in a shimmery silver sequin gown.
Model Winnie Harlow, who showed off her inner mythical creature in a textured brown flame dress by Iris Van Herpen, and FKA Twigs also wore a gray ombré knit dress by Rick Owens, teaming with the designer. the iconic clear-heeled platform boots and a duvet fit for December.
Braving the cold was Lila Moss, who jumped on the “nude dress” trend her mother started in the nineties by wearing a sheer black style with criss-cross straps by KNWLS. She was joined by Rita Ora, who dared to go bare in a red and mauve sheer dress by future London designer Nensi Dojaka.
Others leaned towards the refined and trendy. Maya Jama looked elegant in a strapless black dress and oversized boat hat, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley opted for a leather top and black crepe skirt from Valentino’s recent SS23 collection. Russian model Irina Shayk also shed it, wearing a brown peplum top by H&M paired with suede flats.
The boys proved equally busy on the chilly evening. Rising star Sebastian Croft, known for his role in Netflix’s Heartstopper, wore a multi-coloured, cutout hexagon vest by JW Anderson, while diver Tom Daley wore a rhinestone-covered mesh sweater under his tuxedo.
Some have kept it traditional. These included former One Directioner Liam Payne, in a classic black tuxedo and black tie, Scottish actor James McAvoy who wore a midnight blue velvet blazer and bow tie, and Romeo Beckham who chose a double-breasted gray Dior suit with black T-shirt and thin brooch. Stormzy also looked dapper in an all-black Burberry for the occasion.
Surprise guests included this year’s Love Island-winning couple taking to the red carpet; Ekin-Su CülcüloÄŸlu wore a front slit dress embellished with floral motifs and joined boyfriend Davide Sanclimenti in a silver jacquard blazer and bow tie.
The evening is hosted by actor Jodie Turner-Smith, a must-have in lime green, and will see the likes of Prada Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons go head-to-head with Jonathan Anderson for Designer of Year and Bella Hadid battle Lila Moss for 2022†Best Model of ™s.
