It’s a new year on Paramount + UK and January’s slate features the return of current Paramount creator-in-chief Taylor Sheridan, who has put together a new slate of politically charged crime series Mayor of Kingstown.
Elsewhere, there’s a double header of werewolf fun. Five years after the end of the TV series, the MTV incarnation of Teen Wolf returned in film form, reuniting most of the original cast members. Elsewhere, Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to the world of supernatural teen thrillers as she appears in Wolf Pack.

New films coming to Paramount+ UK in January 2023
Godmother of Cocaine (January 6)
Catherine Zeta-Jones plays the lead role in this crime thriller based on the true story of Medellin drug cartel boss Griselda Blanco. A Colombian native, Blanco immigrated to the United States in the 1970s and established a drug business in New York before moving to Miami and becoming a key figure in the ‘Miami Drug War’ of the 1970s and 80s. Interestingly, Netflix is also working on a series about Blanco, in which she will be played by Sofía Vergara.
The Latest Victim (January 6)
First-time director Naveen’s neo-noir thriller A Chathapuram stars Ali Larter as the protagonist, a scientist who witnesses the cover-up of a horrendous crime perpetrated by Ralph Ineson’s group of outlaws. The group goes after her in hopes of making her their “last victim,” but Ron Perlman’s sheriff hopes to get her first and save her.
Teen Wolf (January 27)
Featuring only a very dim compilation of Michael J. Fox’s 1980s film, the TV show Teen Wolf ran for six seasons on MTV from 2011 to 2017. This feature serves as a continuation of the series, with many of the returning of the original cast, including Tyler Posey in the lead role of Scott McCall. The film follows the rise of a new evil in Beacon Hills, forcing Scott to embrace his role as the alpha and rally his friends to fight back.
New TV shows coming to Paramount+ UK in January 2023
Love Rats: Volume 2 (all episodes from January 3)
The first part of this documentary series aired in September, featuring women telling horror stories of bad behavior and crime in the dating world. It features courageous women who hope to warn others with their tales of nightmarish bigamists, crooks, and crooks.
The Challenge: Australia (all episodes from January 4)
Long-running reality show The Challenge comes to Australia, testing 22 hopefuls with a selection of physical and mental tasks. The contestants are best known for taking part in other reality shows, including Love Island and Ninja Warrior.
Mayor of Kingstown S2 (weekly from 16 January)
Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon’s Michigan-set crime drama returns for a second season, continuing to follow the power-broker McLusky family led by Jeremy Renner as Mike. The series tackles issues such as systemic racism and the prison industrial complex, examining power and politics in modern America. The cast also includes Dianne Wiest, Tobi Bamtefa, Aidan Gillen and Kyle Chandler.
The Challenge UK (daily from 17 January)
In addition to the Australian version of the show, The Challenge will also debut its first season in the UK on Paramount+. Rumors suggest the stars of Big Brother, Love Island, TOWIE and Below Deck will be among those facing the physical and mental challenges.
Are you the one? Global Edition (Episodes 1-2 on January 19, then weekly)
In one of the most ambitious dating series ever attempted, Are You The One? brings together 22 recently single men and women from all over the world to see if they can find their perfect match. Singles have the chance to win big money if they can get all 11 “perfect matches” together.
The Chemistry of Death (weekly from January 19)
Harry Treadway plays forensic anthropologist Dr David Hunter in this adaptation of Simon Beckett’s psychological thriller novels. After years of working with the police, he moves to the quiet countryside in hopes of a quieter existence. But when a mutilated corpse turns up in the woods, the local police enlist him for his unique skills.
Wolf Pack (weekly starting January 27)
Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis appears to be something of a werewolf specialist, following up that series with this 2004 adaptation of Edo van Belkom’s book. It follows a group of teenagers who are brought together when wildfires awaken supernatural creatures. It’s probably not a spoiler to specify what those creatures are, right? Sarah Michelle Gellar of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame is also in the cast.
