Matthew Perry revealed that he has a secret crush on which Jennifer Aniston during their early years Friends.
The Chandler Bing actor said things got “awkward” between him and his co-star while filming the hit sitcom because he pictured her “wickedly.”
Matthew admitted that his crush began three years before he was cast for Friends when they met through mutual acquaintances.
He said he even asked Jennifer out at the time, but she turned him down.
Writing in his new memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, which was serialized in The Times and The Sun, Matthew said he was “immediately hooked” by Jennifer when they first met.
She said (via The Times): “I got the feeling she was intrigued too – maybe that would have been something. At the time, I got two jobs in one day: one was Haywire, America’s funniest home video show, and the other was a sitcom. So I called Jennifer and said, “You’re the first person I wanted to tell.”
“Bad idea. I could hear ice forming through the phone.
She continued: “Looking back, it was clear that this made her think I liked her too much or the wrong way … and I just compounded the mistake by asking her out. She refused (which made dating her very difficult), but she said she would like to be friends with me, and I compounded the compound by snapping, “We can’t be friends! ‘”
After they were later cast to play Chandler and Rachel in Friends together, Matthew said that even though he was “still attracted” to Jennifer, “they were able to navigate beyond the past” and focus on their work.

However, things changed as filming progressed, with Matthew continuing: “Pretty early in the making of Friends I realized I was still severely beating Jennifer Aniston. Our greetings and farewells have become awkward. And then I was wondering, how long can I watch it? Is three seconds too long?
“But that shadow disappeared in the warm glow of the show. (That, and his deafening lack of interest.) “
Matthew and Jennifer have maintained a close bond, and she too once faced him over her struggles with alcohol, with Matthew revealing that he was the cast member of Friends who “achieved the most”.
“I’m really grateful to her for that,” he said in an upcoming US television interview.
Last year, Matthew and Jennifer joined the rest of the main Friends cast for the much-publicized reunion special, in which it was revealed that she and David Schwemmer she came close to being a real-life couple amidst the romance between their characters Ross and Rachel.
