They are undoubtedly the most established Asian football team, but South Korea faces a difficult task if they are to progress from the group stage to the 2022 World Cup.
The team is coached by Paulo Bento, the former Portugal manager who was tasked with leading the national team in Qatar when he replaced Shin Tae-yong, whose time was up after the 2018 tournament.
Bento’s career includes the coach of Sporting Lisbon and the guide of Portugal to the semi-finals of Euro 2012, but he was later sacked.
The team is recognized by FIFA as the Republic of Korea.
South Korea World Cup 2022 team
The squad of 23-26 players from each country’s last World Cup must be sent to FIFA by 13 November. The replacement of injured or Covid-19 positive players is allowed up to 24 hours before a team’s first match. This year the World Cup will take place from 20 November to 18 December.
Who could be the names of the stars of the rose?
Dubbed the most underrated striker on the planet, Tottenham Hotspur striker Son Heung-min is the squad’s highlight.
In 2018, he was pivotal for South Korea’s stunning Germany, knocking them out of the group stage in Russia.
The key question is whether he can elevate his explosive form in the Premier League to the biggest stage of all.
However, surgery required on a fractured eye socket puts his World Cup with South Korea in serious jeopardy. The Tottenham Hotspur striker was injured during his team’s Champions League victory in Marseille.
I jumped in the middle of the first half to try to shoot a high ball, but was caught in a disgusting way by Chancel Mbemba of Marseille, who had come forward to challenge him with him.
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that they will begin a rehabilitation program with their medical staff after the operation and the club intends to update fans on the timing of his absence in due course. They did not confirm whether or not he was out of the World Cup because it will depend on the surgery and how the recovery proceeds.
