Antonio Conte refuses to comment on the relocation plans as he focuses on the task ahead

Antonio Conte insisted that his Tottenham focus is on the present after he refused to be drawn to the January transfer plans.

Spurs will host Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Wednesday knowing that victory in Group D would send them to the round of 16.

Tottenham entered the game after consecutive defeats and accumulated injuries, which saw the Italian questioning whether an intense winter transfer market could be the key to a good second half of the season.

Conte said: “I think the club understands very well the importance of bringing important players, good players to January. I am not the person who has to explain this to my club.

If you ask me in January what happens when we have to play so many more games, we will have to try to do our best.

“I repeat that we must take this great result to go to the next round tomorrow and take this opportunity to do so.

“We want to finish in the best way before the World Cup. My priority now is not January but to finish in the best possible way before the World Cup ”.

Conte has spoken in recent weeks of the process that Tottenham are on their way to becoming a true contender in the Premier League and Champions League.

The 53-year-old was told Spurs have an opportunity this season with Chelsea and Manchester United under new management and seemingly in transition.

But Conte refuted that idea and turned down the chance to talk about his long-term plans.

“We have to focus on the present and try to do our best,” he added.

“This season will be more difficult than last because after the transfer market there have been so many, so many teams have spent a lot.

“We have to face many great teams. There will certainly be time to talk to the club. To understand which is the best solution for us.

“This is not the right time to respond. From November now and after a year I have understood many things. The first moment was really hard for me to understand.

“Now I’m going to the world of Tottenham. I understand very well what our situation is, what our position is, what our starting point is, how long our path is to be competitive and fight for something important. Now surely my knowledge of Tottenham is more complete.

For this reason I will be prepared for the moment when we speak with the club and understand what is best for the future. For now we need to focus on the present because we want to do our best in the present.

“My desire, my will and that of the players is to do our best and give satisfaction to the fans. This is the best aspiration of all. For other situations we will see the right moment ”.

Cristian Romero (calf) and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (thigh) missed training on Tuesday after also missing Sunday’s home defeat to Newcastle.

The two have joined Dejan Kulusevski (hamstring) and Richarlison (calf) on the couch, but have a chance to participate in the key European confrontation.

Conte revealed: “Richarlison and Kulusevski are out, recovering but still not available.

“Romero and Hojbjerg we will see tomorrow morning. If there is a chance for them to recover we will try everything because it is an important match for us.

“But we have a lot of games to play until November. We will see tomorrow morning and make a decision ”.
