6:00 Peloton, Britney Spears and a pain au chocolat

The morning routines of successful people have always been a source of curiosity. Jennifer Aniston wakes up at 4:30, Oprah Winfrey meditates for 20 minutes, while Mark Zuckerberg dresses in a gray t-shirt every day to avoid “decision fatigue”.

Rishi Sunak, the UK’s third prime minister in less than two months, has his own idiosyncratic morning routine. It includes an early awakening, a grueling Peloton workout to the sound of Britney Spears, followed by no breakfast or one that is unlikely to keep hunger stuck until lunch.

When the former chancellor officially took office after a meeting with King Charles III on Tuesday (Oct.25), there was much speculation about his family life, extensive portfolio of properties and whether he will make 10 Downing Street the his main residence.

As for his daily routine, the prime minister said he always starts the morning with some exercise. In an appearance on the Twenty minutes against podcast last year, Mr. Sunak revealed that his favorite time to wake up in the morning is 6am.

He said he is a “big fan” of Peloton workouts, especially those led by Cody Rigsby, one of the most popular exercise bike instructors.

Rigsby, a former athlete, encourages attendees to picture themselves as pop star Britney Spears as they ride their bikes.

“I’m a huge fan of Cody Rigsby. He’s been my long-term favorite, which means you have to listen to a lot of Britney, “Sunak said, adding,” But you know, it’s not bad trying to motivate yourself, I guess. “

“I hope you have Britney’s wigs, costumes, t-shirts. I imagine wearing more Britney wigs today, you can do the same, “Rigsby tells viewers during a Britney-themed video.

First launched in 2012, Peloton sells a range of treadmills and stationary bikes that come complete with 22-inch flat-screen TVs and on-demand workouts hosted by one of Peloton’s instructors. The equipment is considered top of the range, with bikes starting at £ 1,750.

When he’s not attending a Peloton class, Sunak opts for a treadmill run or high-intensity interval training session at his local recreation center.

Once he finished his daily exercise, Sunak said he either goes on intermittent fasting and skips breakfast altogether, or he eats Greek yogurt and blueberries.

Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern that limits the number of hours in a day that a person can eat.

A study, published by researchers at Harvard Medical School in 2020, found that intermittent fasting can improve the body’s defenses against oxidative stress and increase resistance to disease.

As podcast host, venture capitalist Harry Stebbings points out, routine is enough to make listeners feel “terrible” about their morning, but Sunak admitted that his eating habits become less conventionally healthy during the day.

“And then I have a second mid-morning breakfast that’s either Gail’s cinnamon bun or a pain au chocolat, or a chocolate chip muffin, so at some point I have a chocolate, sweetened pastry,” she said.

While his schedule keeps him busy all week, Sunak, a father of two girls, said his family sits down together for breakfast every weekend.

“At the weekend we have a full English breakfast on Saturdays, and then on Sundays we alternate between pancakes or waffles,” he said.
